Death of Kairos

A PICO-8 boss battler where you steal time itself — and every mistake can be rewound.

Why it's on the list: The rare pick you can test this second, no download. A year of work in a tiny cartridge: 3 stages, 3 weapons, 4 mini-bosses, and a time-stealing hook that makes its bullet-hell fights feel fair instead of cruel.

Midgardr

A medieval city-builder that lives on a board game table — and the board is not all it seems.

Why it's on the list: Our #1 curiosity this week. Solo, turn-based, short-session strategy with a meta-story hiding under the board — demo players found the trapdoor first. If the secret layer lands, this is the one people will be talking about in January.

Chess of the Hidden Gates

A roguelike deckbuilder where every card is a xiangqi (Chinese chess) move.

Why it's on the list: Chess moves as cards is a genuinely new engine, not a reskin. The Next Fest demo (Oct 19–26) runs 30–45 minutes with the Horse Master class — long enough to know if the system has legs. Full game adds co-op and 300+ cards.

Send In The Clown

A one-hour comedy RPG about saving a disastrous kids' birthday party — as the clown.

Why it's on the list: They built an entire turn-based battle system and used it exactly once, for the final fight — and every guest you help during the party unlocks a move in it. From a team with TV comedy credits. Comedy games usually fail; this one's structure is the joke and the mechanic at once.

VOIDSHIFT

PS1-style psychological horror on the night shift of a supermarket that is quietly going wrong.

Why it's on the list: Stock shelves, check cameras, rotate expiring stock — while three entities (Wrath, Envy, Sloth) hunt you for doing your job badly. Task-based horror where mistakes have teeth. Demo progress carries over, and Night 1 at Edenway Market opens Next Fest.

Cozy Game Restoration

Peel the stickers, scrub the grime, bring battered retro cartridges back to life.

Why it's on the list: The PowerWash effect applied to game collecting — and the numbers back it: 340k+ wishlists before launch. The first demo drew tutorial complaints, the dev listened, delayed, and shipped a fixed demo on Oct 1. That response to feedback is exactly what we watch for.

Heroll: IF

A roguelike board RPG — roll, move, and fight your way around the board.

Why it's on the list: Board-game structure gives a roguelike run a shape you can read at a glance — every lap is a decision. One of three OFFMOON demos at Next Fest; we're testing all three and keeping the best on the list.

BEASTOPIA: RAIDERS

Animal raiders loot ruined cities and labs — and have to make it back to shelter alive.

Why it's on the list: Extraction is the riskiest genre bet a small team can make — and the animal-raider framing gives this one a personality the military clones don't have. The Next Fest demo will tell us if the loop survives contact with real players.

Bingo, but wrong: a roguelike where you bend, break and abuse the rules of bingo.

Why it's on the list: World-premiered at Out of Bounds 2026 (Oct 6). 150+ stickers and 50+ amulets stack into absurd combo chains across 20+ bosses. Balatro proved a familiar game + build-breaking synergies is a formula; bingo is the most familiar game on Earth.
