About Monstruous

Monstruous is a curated showcase for upcoming indie games — a place to test the next big one before it's big.

What this site is

Thousands of indie games launch every year and discovery is broken: stores bury new games under whatever is already popular. We do the opposite of an algorithm. One curator reads the showcases (Steam Next Fest, Out of Bounds, itch.io's new releases), tests what's testable, and keeps a short, current list — 12 picks this week — with the demo status and release window for each.

"Monstruous" is the old spelling of monstrous. The list is small. The ambition for the games on it isn't.

The curation promise

Picks are earned

Every pick carries a written "why it's on the list" note. If we can't say why a game deserves your time, it doesn't go up.

Fresh or retired

The list refreshes weekly. Launched, stale, or abandoned picks move to the archive with a final verdict — the watchlist never becomes a graveyard.

Honest statuses

Demo live, demo dated, wishlist-only, beta sign-up — we label exactly how you can test a game today, and we never imply a demo exists when it doesn't.

Disclosure — affiliate & featured listings

Some outbound links on Monstruous may in future be affiliate links, which can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Paid featured listings for developers are planned for later (see For Developers); when they launch they will be clearly labelled "Featured", and — this is the rule that doesn't bend — payment never buys a pick, a ranking, or a verdict. Curated picks and featured listings will always be visually separate.

Cover tiles on this site are simple generated placeholders, not the developers' artwork; each card links to the game's official Steam or itch.io page for the real thing.
